School Council Working Group: Expressions of Interest Open

School Council Working Group: Expressions of Interest Open
Posted on 10/21/2022

The Family and Community Engagement department is looking for volunteers to participate in two working groups to develop district documentation supporting school councils across the OCDSB. The topics are fundraising and best practices.

School Council Fundraising

We all know that School Councils do much more than fundraising. School Councils work for school reform by activating parent participation to improve student achievement and enhancing the system's accountability to parents.

However, fundraising activities can benefit schools and their communities by fostering community and school partnerships, increasing student and community engagement and providing support for student or charitable organizations.

Some of our School Councils are adept at raising funds, while others have expressed a need for training and support with fundraising strategies.

  • How do we leverage the expertise of those schools adept at fundraising?
  • How do we partner School Councils to build the capacity of those looking to become more effective at fundraising?
  • What equitable practices can we implement to support all of our schools?

Best Practices

As we work to enhance parent engagement and support parents new to School Councils to collaborate and work as effectively and efficiently as possible to make decisions that will help their school, what best practices, if followed, can maximize the progress and productively assist each member in being an accountable contributor?

If you are interested in participating in one of these working groups, please extend an expression of interest by November 21st, 2022 to the Family and Community Engagement Coordinator Tess Porter, at [email protected]
