The Ottawa-Carleton District School Board hosted the Going to High School information session on April 28, 2022, 7:00 p.m. - 9:00 p.m. This virtual conference, organized by OCDSB’s Innovation and Adolescent Learning team, provided details about the transition from Grade 8 to high school.
Students and families discovered the curriculum and subject areas available to all incoming grade 9 students. Instructional coaches facilitated 15-minute presentations that allowed students/families time to ‘visit’ various subject areas. The move to destreamed curriculum was presented to address some of the questions received from the parent community, helping to alleviate some of the anxieties about this important transition for our students.
Sessions were offered in multiple languages, including Farsi/Arabic, Somali/Arabic, Arabic, Mandarin/Cantonese. Additional sessions related to Link Crew, Mental health and wellness, Indigenous, Equity and 2SLGTBQ+ supports were also offered.
