Changes to Front of School

Changes to Front of South Carleton DHS
Posted on 07/26/2019

As a result of student safety concerns related to pick up and drop off of students at the front of the school, the Board is making changes to address these issues.  A  new lay-by is being constructed to provide a safe drop-off and pick up area at the front of the school. Additional parking will also be provided as part of the changes to improve safety.  This will be completed before school resumes on September 3rd.

In order to make the necessary changes to ensure the safety of students, the removal of 8 trees and the garden from the front of the school were required.  While we recognize and understand the concerns expressed by some members of the community related to the impact on the trees and garden being removed, the design plan includes replacement of the existing 8 trees and a new garden. The Board will be planting the 8 replacement trees as part of the work being completed this summer. The Board will work together with the school, School Council and members of the community who are interested in contributing ideas to the garden.  This will be coordinated in the fall.

Further information will be shared in August outlining the procedures related to student pick up and drop off at the front of the school.
