Take Our Kids to Work Day

Take Our Kids to Work Day

Take Our Kids to Work Day, taking place on Wednesday, November 6th, 2019, is an annual event where students step into their future for a day and get a glimpse into the working world. The day involves students in Grade 9 spending the day in the workplace of a parent, relative, friend or volunteer host, where they experience and learn about the world of work.

South Carleton students will be encouraged to participate in this program once again this year. We ask parents to speak with their grade 9 student about preparing for this day. Parents should check with their employer to ensure that their child can accompany them to work that day. We understand that this format does not work for every family as they may work shifts or be employed in an occupation that is not safe or suitable for 14-year-olds i.e. construction sites. If this is the case, please consider a friend, relative, or neighbour having your child accompany them. If your child is interested in a particular career, you can even try calling that business or work site to ask if they would host your child for the day. This is our grade 9's first career exploration experience in High School and it can provide a wonderful opportunity for them to start thinking and talking about their own future career options.

Permission forms will be distributed to students Wednesday, October 16 and should be returned to their period 1 teacher by Friday, October 25. The first class to  have all their forms in will win a pizza lunch! After October 25, any student wishing to take part in Take Our Kids to Work will need to return their form to Mrs. Pike in Guidance.
