Assessment and Evaluation

Your child’s education must prepare them for tomorrow’s world. Students have to attain 21st century characteristics and skills such as critical thinking, communication, collaboration, and creativity to ensure future success.

In today’s classrooms, instruction, assessment and evaluation support multiple learning objectives. As students explore personal interests and pathways to success, they work towards key exit outcomes, developing characteristics and skills that will help them be productive, successful citizens.

Teachers use assessment and evaluation practices that are fair, transparent and equitable.  The goal is to support all students with carefully planned and clearly explained expectations at the beginning of the school year. This helps to guide student efforts.  Teachers will provide multiple opportunities for students to demonstrate their learning and provide clear feedback in a meaningful and timely manner.  End of the year or end of the semester assessments - should not come as a surprise to students or their families. Teachers will regularly communicate their on-going assessment of students work.

Assessment and evaluation is designed to improve student learning, not just to provide a student with a final mark. Parents play an important role in their child’s education. When parents, students and school staff work together, students are successful.
