2022 Sankofa Summer Academy for Black Youth for OCDSB Students

Reach Ahead Credit Opportunity for African, Black, and Caribbean OCDSB Students

Registration: April 4 at 12:00 pm - June 28, 2022 by 4:00 pm
Program duration: July 6 - July 28, 2022
Class Times:  8:30 am to 3:35 pm
Location: Lisgar Collegiate Institute (South Building), 29 Lisgar St.

About this program:

This summer, the OCDSB Continuing Education department, in partnership with the Sankofa Centre of Excellence, will be offering a reach ahead credit opportunity for African, Black and Caribbean OCDSB students. Eligible students will have the opportunity to supplement and enrich their high school education by acquiring one credit.  Students will have the opportunity to participate in field trips and hands-on activities.

IMPORTANT: Students are required to attend the full summer school session (110 hours) to meet curriculum expectations outlined by the Ministry of Education. Vacations and holidays should not be taken for the duration of the course.

Course Options:

ENG1D (English - Grade 9, Academic - destreamed)
CHC2D (Canadian History since World War 1 - Grade 10, Academic - destreamed)
*Please note: Courses are subject to change or cancellation.

Eligibility:

• ENG1D: African, Black, and Caribbean Grade 8 students entering grade 9 in 2022-2023 or HS students who have not yet completed Grade 9 English.
• CHC2D: African, Black, and Caribbean HS students who have completed Grade 9 English.
• Must be currently registered in an OCDSB school
