Color Palette.png  Visual Arts.  The primary focus of any good art program is to open students' eyes to a wide range of studio techniques, critical discussion methods, and pertinent art history topics that will guide their own creation. In South Carleton's Art Department, beginning with the grade nine course looking at fundamental creation, theory, and analysis, and building on such a foundation through grade ten and eleven art, we strive to teach students how to appreciate art. We hope to expand upon what students already know and continually develop their visual vocabulary and perceptual interest from within both their own community and the greater world around them.

Flute Music.png Music. The music program at South Carleton is vibrant and energetic. Instrumental Music is offered from grade 9 through grade 12. The Music classes are performance based where students will learn appreciation, analysis and performance of various kinds of music. South Carleton also offers Junior and Senior Concert Bands for credit. These courses are taught outside of the regular timetable and rehearse 2 times per week. (Please note that if students want to sign up for Concert Band for credit, it is important for them to also be signed up for Instrumental Music.) Students can also participate in the Jazz Ensemble, Percussion Ensemble and the Guitar Ensemble, which offer plenty of opportunities for musicians to perform. Read more on the Band website.

Theatre Masks.png  Drama. The Drama program gives students the opportunity to explore contemporary issues and traditional values through the application of creativity and stagecraft. Theatre games, rehearsal exercises, and performance form the core student activities. The dichotomous role of theatre - both celebration and catalyst - is promoted and reflected by the class assignments and projects. The emphasis in ADA1O is on problem solving, innovation, and the communication of ideas through a mixture of small group work and ensemble pieces. The program successfully prepares students for college and university theatre courses. South Carleton graduates have continued their interest in theatre both professionally and in community theatre.
