Our junior classes emphasize the importance of team sports, while our senior classes develop new interests in individual sports. All grade 9 students are certified in CPR, and our Health curriculum includes several guest speakers from the Ottawa community. Special events include instruction in self defense and field trips for curling and golf. In addition to the traditional phys ed classes, students may take Personal Fitness at all levels, and Yoga/Holistic Health in grades 11 and 12. These are just a few of the reasons why South Carleton is a leader in the OCDSB for students participating in a physically active life.
Outdoor Education at South Carleton provides students with an experiential method of learning by doing. This learning takes place primarily through exposure to the out-of-doors where the emphasis of learning is placed on relationships concerning human and environmental resources. Outdoor Education often involves small groups actively engaged in adventurous activities, which include canoeing, hiking, orienteering, wilderness first aid, cross country skiing, and broomball. These activities provide excellent and safe opportunities for student growth under the guidance of a qualified instructor.
