Mathematics

Department Head: Ms. Emma Abbott

The Mathematics Department at South Carleton High School is committed to providing a supportive and engaging learning environment for students at all levels. Our team of experienced and dedicated teachers strives to help students develop strong mathematical skills and a deep understanding of key concepts. We aim to not only enhance their problem-solving abilities but also to show the practical applications of mathematics in the real world.

Our department offers a wide range of courses, including options at the college, university, and workplace levels. Whether students are preparing for university studies or exploring mathematics as part of their career pathways, we ensure that each course is designed to meet their academic and future goals. Students who may be interested in enriching their math learning through contest writing should speak with their teacher to find out about upcoming opportunities.

We also recognize that some students may need additional support. To assist, extra help is available during lunch hours on Tuesdays and Thursdays, and additional support can be arranged directly with the individual teacher. Free online tutoring in the evenings is available province-wide through TVO Mathify. Lesson information and learning tools are updated regularly on the Google Classroom for each course. Our goal is to ensure every student has the resources they need to succeed and feel confident in their mathematical journey.

At South Carleton, we believe that mathematics is not only a crucial academic subject but also a valuable skill that empowers students in their everyday lives and future endeavours.
